Yeesss they totally can but here are some ways to prevent that from happening!
A fresh set of eyelash extensions can make you feel like an absolute goddess. However, when applied incorrectly, lash extensions can be uncomfortable and even cause infections that can lead to permanent lash loss. At Prema Lashes, we make it our priority to give you the lashes of your dreams without sacrificing the health of your natural lashes. In today's post, we’ll be sharing our very own studio practices that ensure the health and safety of our client's natural lashes. From the very first consultation to the aftercare you can do at home, we’ll share everything you need to know about having healthy natural lashes with lash extensions.
The First Consultation
The first consultation is necessary to ensure you're the right candidate for lash extensions. First, we examine your lashes to ensure they're in good health. The improper use of lash glues and strip lashes can weaken and damage your lashes over time, so we want to ensure your lashes are healthy before applying extensions. We also want to ensure that you don't have any contraindications or allergies to any product used during the application process. Once we've determined that your lashes can handle extensions, you'll be ready to book your first appointment.
Lash Deep Clean
When you come in for your appointment, we perform a deep cleansing treatment that helps to remove any build-up on the lashes from makeup, skincare, as well as surface oils from your skin. We then apply a coat of primer that promotes the strength of your natural lashes to keep them healthy.
Meticulous Lash Isolation
This next step may be the most important to ensure the health of your natural lashes. By using a
strip of gentle adhesive tape and sterilized tweezers, we begin the meticulous lash isolation process. Extensions are applied one lash at a time so it’s important to separate them to ensure proper application and avoid sticking. This is important because it enables your natural lashes to go through their shedding cycles properly while the extensions are attached. Lashes need to grow and shed as a healthy part of their lifecycle, so any lashes stuck together can disrupt the cycle, damaging or even preventing new growth.
Careful Separation of Lash Stickies
While we take every precaution to avoid lashes sticking together, it can still happen as part of the application process. To ensure you never leave our studio with any "stickies," we check each lash from root to tip to ensure they're all properly separated after the extensions are applied. If we do find any stickies, we gently separate them using tweezers.
Lash Aftercare
To maintain the beauty of your lashes between your 3-week appointment schedule, we offer aftercare kits so you can take care of your lashes at home. These kits are free for new clients and available for purchase from the studio. Our kits include an incredible lash shampoo that you can use to clean your lashes daily. This will help with longer wear and natural lash health.
